Ok, I was suckered by other good reviews that were probably planted by the author/publisher. There is little of value in this tiny book (I should have looked at the page count) in reference to audio compression unless you didn't already know about the 6 or 7 most expensive compressors on the market. These compressors (Fairchild, Urei, Chandler, Teletronix, etc) are units you will probably never use much less own. There is a very brief intro addressing compressor circuitry. The book title is misleading. There are vague explanations about attack and release settings with very few examples. I thought this book would be a good reference for compressing different sources. But it's not that at all. It is a way to milk novices out of their $. Buy something more comprehensive if you want to learn about compression. Besides unusable information on compressors you'll never own this is basically worthless if you've already spent some time with compressors.Product details

Not what I was looking for but that's more my fault than this book's. A novice, I need more illustrations than descriptions.
Great book about how to use basic types of compressors (you don't have to own the original hardware, there are plenty of copies and/or plug-ins on the market), for people which have already some experience with mixing/compression, but searching for some tricks and tips to improve and simplify their attitude to compression.
A vague and shallow book about compression and compressors. I guess it's maybe helpful for someone who doesn't want to know very much. It certainly wasn't for me.
The author helps you to not only consider compression as a tool to only reduce the dynamic range of a track but also as a tone and depth shaping tool or spice as he states. He even touched on advance concepts such as mixing the original and duplicates with different compressors to achieve interesting results. A more detailed explanation with links to audio examples would have helped but it is still a good book regardless.

I knew that compression was a big thing to a lot of successful audio enthusiasts to say the least, but why, compression seams so simple and many proffesionals this la2 or ssl is the best for mixes or drums or vox and seemed to use them effects modules, this booked proved and disproved my theories , it is simple, yet artistically complex. , a great talk on the low down of compression and it's justly or unjustly use in the industry. How accurately, I don't know, I hope Very much so

Instead, while the author clearly knows what he’s talking about, the information is presented more like a casual conversation about compression preferences, with no instructional or comparative material present.
